We played to a 2-1 lost in our last regular season home match. Branson Hyatt had a goal off over a set piece from distance to make the score 2-1. After a hard fought last 35 minutes the game ended 2-1. We had our best crowd of the year and we hope to have the opportunity to play in front of them again. A win against Furman will win the regular season conference championship and give us the opportunity to host the semis and finals on November 13th and 15th.

Wofford 2 UNCG 2

Click the title for a full write up.

We played to a 2-2 tie tonight against the Spartans from UNCG. We stared off the scoring at the 14th minute mark on a one time volley from Kentrell Owens who was played in behind on a wonderful chip by Yakov Rubinchik. The second goal came around the 30 minute mark off a cross from Moe Kellie that then bounced around the box. After a few shots and a couple by Wilson Hood, Branson Hyatt found himself on the end of a Greensboro save and finished the opportunity to make it 2-0 Wofford. UNCG made it 2-1 7 minutes in to the second halve. After a couple chances by both teams, Greensboro found themselves on the end of a second service that turned into a flick header that tied the score at 2-2.

We are proud of the boys for some exciting and quality soccer and look forward to our next game, away against NC State on Tuesday night.

Wofford 2 Winthrop 1

In the first pre-season match of the 2009-2010 slate Wofford College comes away with a 2-1 win. Nick Schuermann, Sr. Captain, scores in the 30th minute to make the score line 1-0. Nick heads home a free kick from about 16 yds out with the assist going to Branson Hyatt, Sr.. Wofford made the game 2-0 in the 3rd 30th minute period off a volley from Jr. Wilson Hood. Ethan Miller served a ball from the left corner and Wilson Hood shot the ball first time at the near post high. With about 15 minutes to play Wofford gave up a free kick on the left flank. The ball was served to the back post and then served back across. A slight scrum in the box saw a ball ricochet into the back of the Wofford net. A solid defensive effort saw Wofford hold on to the win. Thomas Hunter played 60 minutes and had a 1-0 lead when he left the game. Next match is Monday 8/24/09 at 7 pm vs Carson Newman in the last pre-season game.
